Frequently Asked Questions about the Yoga Content for Riders

I’m new to Yoga and afraid of doing something wrong. Is this a good place to start?

Yes it is. In fact, practicing with us from the comfort and sanctuary of your own home can be a wonderful, gentle way to begin your yoga journey and establish your practice. With a growing range of Level 1 classes, we work hard to create an online library that is accessible and varied.

There is also an introductory course coming up (coming this winter) that will take you by the hand each step of the way.

Until then, we recommend trying out a couple of Level 1 classes to get started. You can also practice meditation and breath work without any prior knowledge. If there is anything to consider, Daniela will mention it at the beginning of the practice.

I don’t feel fit and/or flexible enough for yoga. Does it still make sense to practice?

That’s a common misunderstanding: You don’t need to be fit or flexible to do yoga. The reason, why you see so many flexible yoga practictioners is because yoga will make you more flexible. :)

Helping you listen to your body is one of my main goals. Just take it step by step and work with what you got and you WILL get fitter and more flexible over time.

All the riders I work with start where they are at – at various different ages and places. You’ll see in the community feature. You do you, it will be just fine.

I'm a dressage/jumping/eventing/western/polo rider. Will the practices work for me and my discipline?

The BMH Yoga Club offers classes designed specifically for riders of all disciplines, including dressage, jumping, eventing, western, and trail riding. Our classes cater to the goals and needs of horse people, from strength-building flows to restorative practices.

Additionally, Daniela has experience and a deep understanding of a variety of riding styles, so she understands the unique physical demands and challenges that each discipline presents.

Whether you're a dressage rider looking to improve your posture and balance, a western rider wanting to strengthen your core and improve your seat, or a trail rider seeking to increase your flexibility and reduce stiffness, we have classes that will benefit your riding.

Our library of practices ranges from 5 to 90 minutes, accommodating your schedule and preferences, no matter what your horsey life throws at you. We understand the busy schedules, full lives, and various responsibilities of our members, and are here to provide moments of pause in between. Sign up for our 7-day free trial to experience the benefits of the BMH Yoga Club for yourself!

I don’t ride my horse at the moment. Will the practice still help me?

Yes, you can still use the content for yourself and it will also offer you plenty of ideas and inspiration to improve your body language and energy and to deepen the relationship with your horse in general.

I’m injured. Can I still practice?

Yes, we try to offer modifications, variations and options throughout each and every practice to make the practice fit to as many bodies as possible. If you have any specific needs or wishes, you can also make a request for corresponding sequence or variation for a certain posture at any time (just mail to club@bodymindhorses.com).

However, we recommend that first and foremost you get the all clear for movement, breathwork and meditation from your healthcare provider and that you know how to modify your practice for how your body is feeling.

Yoga can feel uncomfortable as it expands our limits… but it should never hurt. If anything in any practice ever hurts your body please stop and take a break. Always find your personal and current right measure between ‘not enough’ and ‘too much’. But Daniela will also say this a lot in her classes.

I’m pregnant. Can I continue to practice online classes?

Yes! This is a time to be particularly mindful of your body though, so feel into it and ask it what it needs. Depending on how far along you are, you should modify anything that compromises or pressures the belly too much. Also, there are a few breathing techniques, like breath of fire, that should be avoided. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at club@bodymindhorses.com.

Also, we do recommend that you get the all clear for movement, breathwork and meditation from your healthcare provider prior to beginning an online Yoga practice.

I already practice yoga. Why do I need a yoga practice that is specifically for riders?

That’s fantastic! Of course, yoga has so many benefits for riders just in and of itself. The yoga we practice in the BMH yoga club ist specifically dedicated to expanding your horsemanship skills in every way and we haven’t seen that in any other offering in this depth.

If you take a solid yoga practice and blend it with principles that link yoga with horsemanship, a selection of postures that benefit the rider especially as well as information that inspires a deeper relationship with your horse… It does add special effects, you will see. 🙂

At BMH Yoga Club, we consciously deepen our horsemanship through our yoga practice.

So you might take it for a test drive and see if you like this way of combining two beautiful things.

I tried yoga before and didn’t like it, e.g. because it is too spiritual. Should I still give it a try?

Yoga has so many different shades. Every teacher is different and there are about a million different styles… If you didn’t like what you’ve tried I’d always recommend to still give other yoga teachers and styles a shot – it might surprise you how different yoga can be and you might find yourself loving it after all. Plus with the BMH Yoga Club you also improve your horsemanship, so this is something that can’t be taken away from you. We’d recommend you just do a free 7-day trial and find out for yourself!

Do I need specific equipment/props to participate?

To begin with, all you need is your yoga mat. Most videos can be practiced without props. If you practice regularly, we recommend purchasing 2 yoga blocks.

If you need equipment for any of the classes, Daniela will inform you at the beginning of the class about which props you need.

There is always the option to use two thick books instead of yoga blocks, a thick (sofa) cushion or two blankets instead of a yoga bolster. Instead of a yoga strap, a bathrobe belt, a lead rope/long line, a dog leash or a simple belt will do. Also, you might need a blanket to sit on for some classes (Daniela will let you know) or to get comfortable for the final resting phase.

What styles of classes are in the library?

Daniela’s overall teaching style is empathetic, encouraging and playful. She challenges you to sensibly expand your boundaries. Her teaching incorporates alignment-centered classes as well as more intuitive and creative flows as well as deep meditation.

She has developed a set of principles that over the years have become the baseline of the Body, Mind & Horses yoga style, presenting a mix of mainly Hatha, Anusara, Vinyasa Yoga blended with embodiment and nervous system-centered exercises as well as Restorative and Yin Yoga. Her background in Yoga therapy allows her to consider a variety of different body types and ways of balancing bodies. Yet more than anything, the breath constitutes the central element in both her style of yoga teaching as well as riding instruc

In the library you find a mix of all of this, of course always designed specifically for riders. You will be able to build a well-rounded practice via the classes available in the Club.

What do I need to consider when practicing?

Learn to listen to your body and always practice in a way that is good for you. Never breathe through pain, but see it as a warning signal. A slight stretching pain is okay, but never a "sharp" or stabbing pain. Your teacher will guide you precisely so that you can safely perform the exercises. If you are unsure, do not force a posture. If you have any health or physical restrictions, please consult your healthcare provider.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Club Membership

What is included in a subscription plan?

The Body, Mind & Horses Yoga Club offers a range of yoga, meditation, breathwork, and self-care classes (audio and video) designed specifically for riders. We add new practices weekly, and as a member, you will be the first to hear about these brand new releases and of course you have unlimited access to all video and audio content. So it's pretty much like you can have your weekly yoga class – specifically designed for riders and whenever you want to have it!

Our classes cater to the goals and needs of horse people, from strength-building flows to restorative practices. Our growing library of practices ranges from 5 to 90 minutes, accommodating your schedule and preferences, no matter what your horsey life throws at you. We understand the busy schedules, full lives, and various responsibilities of our members, and are here to provide moments of pause in between.

Why am I seeing only a limited amount of videos?

That’s because the Body, Mind & Horses Yoga Club is just getting started! Founded in summer of 2023, the video library is growing bigger and stronger by the week, with about one hour of content being added every Friday. If you have any requests for topics that you’d like to see covered, just let us know at club@bodymindhorses.com.

How often will my payment occur?

We recommend our Annual Subscription due to its easy one-off payment and hearty discount of more than 40 % (you pay only 20 $ per month compared to the 35 $ for the monthly membership).

To get started, simply sign up for the 7 day trial and you'll be able to enjoy the discounted 12-month membership at the end of it. Your Annual Subscription will renew automatically at the end of the 12-month period.

Alternatively, you could opt for our Monthly Subscription, which lets you make one manageable payment per month. This will be debited on a monthly basis after the completion of your 7-day trial. We hope this helps you choose the best option for you!

Why would I choose Annual over Monthly Subscription?

Many of our online members prefer this option due to the simple, single, discounted payment. And with your Annual membership, you save more than 40 %!

If I begin with the Monthly subscription can I switch to Annual later?

Sure, you can switch your subscription over at any time in the 'My Account' tab.

What are the benefits of a “club” over an online studio?

The club offers everything you would expect from an online studio, but with the added element of community.

In addition to our on-demand offerings, we offer live community classes once a month, and provide the opportunity to connect with other members and like-minded riders. This can help you stay consistent and follow your own path.

The equestrian world is so diverse that we understand the value of knowing that we're not alone on our journeys, with our dreams and struggles.

You can always ask Daniela questions, suggest a class you'd like to see on the platform, and connect with other members through our community page or WhatsApp group (in the beginning). This way, you can get in touch with Daniela and her team, as well as other like-minded riders. Of course, you're also welcome to practice for yourself, just like you would in an online studio.

How does the membership help me fit the practice into my life?

We do whatever we can to help you find your practice and stick to it.

The audio and video content is completely on-demand, so that you can fit into your life comfortably.

You don’t have to worry about class schedules and opening hours and you don’t have to go anywhere to practice: Through your mobile phone, your online yoga studio is always with you: At home, at the stable, at work and while you travel.

Also, the content varies in length, so that you can take some time to return to you and make you feel better even if you only have 5 or 10 minutes.

Lastly, we remind you of your practice regularly through email. Therefore you won’t miss anything and be nudged toward supporting yourself at a regular basis.

Will I be informed about new videos?

We release new practices every Friday and our Library is constantly growing. New or the latest videos will be displayed first in the respective section so you don't miss any new videos. In addition, Daniela will inform you about news and events in her monthly Club newsletter.

And yes; we take requests! Just email us at club@bodymindhorses.com.

How do I find out when the next live class will take place?

You will find all dates for the live classes in your monthly newsletter. Daniela also informs about her live classes on her social media channels.

I have bought other yoga or fitness memberships before and didn’t use them. How can you help me stick to it this time?

Great question. Don’t worry – we have all been there. Holding ourselves accountable and being consistent isn’t easy especially with all the things life throws at you.

But making a change for yourself and your horse really comes down to a strong reason why you’re doing it. If you’re clear here and it’s stronger than your reasons not to practice, you will keep at it.

Also, if you want, we’ll notify you whenever there’s a new video to remind you to schedule it into your days so that it’s easy to stay with it. Also, we’ll help you find your ideal yoga time.

Lastly, the video duration varies so you can find a video for almost any circumstances: Even seated and even in the stable around your horse. So you can literally use ANY time you can muster. :)

I’m unable to practice for some time. Can I place my subscription on hold?

We understand that a Yoga practice can ebb and flow for a number of reasons. Should you need to take a break, we suggest simply cancelling your subscription by heading to your Account page > Billing > Cancellations. You can easily sign back up whenever you’re ready!

English is not my native language and I don't feel so comfortable speaking it. Can I still be a member?

Of course! You don’t need to speak English in order to benefit from the BMH Yoga Club. The classes will be taught in English so you should understand it fairly well, yet you don’t need to be comfortable speaking it yourself. Even in the WhatsApp chat/community, you could ask your questions in German, if this feels easier for you.

Can I cancel any time?

You are welcome to cancel your subscription at any time. To do so, go to your Account page > Billing > Cancellations.

If you cancel an Annual Subscription, you will not receive a refund. However, your subscription will not renew automatically at the end of your subscription period.
